Quick Access to Other Tools
Convert a DOCX Document to PDF
Select one DOCX document, review its name and file size, and start the conversion. The generated PDF contains text extracted from the document.
The main conversion runs through JavaScript in the browser. Supporting libraries are loaded from third-party content delivery networks.
About the Word to PDF Converter
The FreeToolsPoint Word to PDF Converter is a simple browser-based utility for turning the readable text inside a DOCX document into a PDF file.
The current conversion process does not use Microsoft Word or a full document-rendering engine. It reads the DOCX file through Mammoth, converts its contents to HTML, extracts the visible text and writes that text onto a PDF page using PDF-Lib.
This approach is suitable for short, simple and mainly text-based documents. It should not be treated as a complete replacement for Microsoft Word’s own PDF export or a professional document-conversion service.
- Accepts one DOCX document at a time.
- Supports clicking and drag-and-drop file selection.
- Shows the selected file name and size.
- Displays a conversion progress bar.
- Downloads the generated PDF automatically.
- Requires no FreeToolsPoint account.
Common Reasons to Convert Word to PDF
PDF can be convenient when a document needs to be shared in a generally readable format without asking the recipient to open a DOCX file.
How to Use the Word to PDF Converter
- Select the upload area or drag a DOCX document into it.
- Confirm that the selected file name and file size are correct.
- Select the Convert to PDF button.
- Wait while the progress bar moves through the conversion stages.
- The generated PDF should download automatically when the process finishes.
- Open the downloaded PDF and check the complete result before sharing or deleting the original document.
How the Word to PDF Converter Works
After a DOCX document is selected, the tool verifies that its file name ends with the `.docx` extension. It then displays the file name and approximate file size and enables the conversion button.
When conversion begins, the browser reads the file as an ArrayBuffer. Mammoth converts the DOCX content into HTML. A temporary HTML element is then used to extract the visible text.
PDF-Lib creates a new PDF document and adds one page measuring 595 by 842 points. The extracted text is drawn on that page using a fixed text size and line height.
The completed PDF is saved as a browser Blob. A temporary download link is created, and the file is downloaded using the original document name with a `.pdf` extension.
Why the Result Is Text-Based
The converter extracts text from the document instead of rendering every Word page. It therefore does not recreate the original document in the same way as Microsoft Word’s own Save as PDF feature.
Word to PDF Conversion Limitations
The current converter writes the extracted document text onto one PDF page. Long documents may therefore extend beyond the available page area or produce an incomplete-looking result.
Complex DOCX content is not fully reproduced. The output may exclude or change elements such as:
- Custom fonts and font sizes.
- Images, diagrams, shapes and charts.
- Tables and complex columns.
- Headers, footers and page numbers.
- Text colours and highlighting.
- Margins, spacing and page breaks.
- Footnotes, comments and tracked changes.
- Text written in characters unsupported by the default PDF font.
Word to PDF Converter Privacy
The DOCX reading and PDF creation functions operate through JavaScript in the browser. The conversion code does not contain a command that uploads the selected document to FreeToolsPoint.
The page loads Mammoth and PDF-Lib from third-party content delivery networks. The wider website may also use hosting logs, analytics, cookies or advertising services. These activities should be explained in the main FreeToolsPoint Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Avoid processing confidential or highly sensitive documents on a shared, public or untrusted device. Downloaded files may remain available in the device’s downloads folder.
Word to PDF Converter Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Word to PDF Converter work?
It reads the selected DOCX file, uses Mammoth to extract readable content and uses PDF-Lib to place the extracted text on a PDF page.
Which Word document format is supported?
The current file input and validation support DOCX documents. Older `.doc` files are not accepted.
Does the PDF preserve the exact Word formatting?
No. The current tool creates a basic text-based PDF. Fonts, images, tables, page layouts and other complex elements may not be preserved.
Are my documents uploaded to FreeToolsPoint?
The main conversion code processes the selected document through JavaScript in the browser and does not contain an upload command to FreeToolsPoint.
Is the converter suitable for a long document?
The tool writes extracted text onto one PDF page, so it is best suited to short documents. Long content may extend beyond the page area.
Will document images appear in the PDF?
The current conversion process extracts text and does not separately place document images into the generated PDF.
Why does my PDF look different from the Word document?
The tool extracts visible text rather than reproducing the original Word page layout. Formatting differences are therefore expected.
Does the converter require an account?
No FreeToolsPoint account or registration is required.
Can I use it on a mobile phone?
Yes. The interface is responsive, but conversion speed and available memory depend on the mobile device and browser.
What should I do when conversion fails?
Confirm that the file is a valid DOCX document, reload the page and try again. Password-protected, damaged or unusually complex documents may not convert correctly.
